He chuckled, "Listen to you, being all flattering even after you've already had a week of me." It was an obvious tease of course. "Going for those extra points now, huh? Making sure I know it's all still there even with hormones chilled the fuck out again." It was sweet, though- "My mother might break out the videos she took of my few performances if you ask nicely." Because of course they'd gotten recorded.
At most his own family knew of Jack's existence and just how well their son got along with this young man from Indiana. That he was doing well, and the most basic of things that wouldn't give away anything being done here. So they wouldn't worry that much more. To know he was still alive.
"May as well, considering." A few things, "Think it'd be fun for the both of us, too." Because he was definitely going to take Jack to The Pie Hole, and a few other places he knew of for food alone. "He'd love having someone to talk to about it, I'm sure. It's one of his favorite things to do."
Nipped lightly at Jack's lower lip when that kiss did finally break. "Be a trip."
"Well... now you know it's an honest opinion rather than flattery designed to get into your pants," he pointed out dryly. They had had conversations in the past where he had made it clear that he was interested in Gabe's life before and during the military. For him, Gabe was easy to talk to. Others might not think so, but he did. "Maybe all this talk is because I like you. Imagine that?" He smiled and would definitely see about asking about acting videos. "First acting videos and then all your baby pictures."
Reconnecting would be good for him, as despite his sunny attitude and positivity, he missed home and his folks a lot. He simply assured himself that he was doing everything he could to protect them, to be the hero they thought he was.
He leaned back on his hands on the bed and watched Gabe for a long moment. "So... we're dating officially?" Even if they didn't tell anyone on base. "The big cities I've been to lately are all war torn, so it would be nice to have a reprieve." Even if they would both know they had to go back. They were expected to have leave after all they were cleared after experimentation. "Well, I would be more than happy to talk to him about it."
He smiled and nuzzled Gabe's face after that nip. "Sounds like we have a few trips in the works."
Gabriel shifted enough that he could lean against Jack's side there on the bed, and rest his head on the man's shoulder, letting out an amused huff. "Not like you gotta sweet-talk your way back in to them now, either," just as dryly. His heat may have been over, but he still wanted contact, physical in whatever he could get. "Just you wait, you'll regret liking me," a slight bump of his head against Jack's jaw, "She'll love showing it all off." Because of course she would.
"Guess we are, yeah. That good with you, being my boyfriend and everything?" They would have to keep it between the two of them, it was safer that way. No one's business anyway as far as Reyes was concerned, too. "Then I guess it's settled that you're coming back home with me for part of our leave."
A hand rested over one of Jack's there on the bed. "It does, yeah."
He was just as happy with physical contact, even if they had a meal to still eat completely. This was good and he tipped his head so that he could lean it on any part of Gabe that happened to be available, in this case the older man's head. "No, not like I have to, but I definitely still will." Because there was romance still to be had, and he was going to take advantage in this change of their status to do just that. "No, I won't. I might have other regrets in my life, but liking you will never be one." His head tipped with the bump. "I have no doubt. I think ma's like to embarrass their kids."
He let that information swirl around his brain. He hadn't had a boyfriend since Vincent, whom he had thought would be the love of his life. But he had broken them up because he couldn't make that young man wait for him as he committed himself wholly to his duty to his country. "It's wonderful. Never thought I'd have it again." He was perfectly accepting of keeping things between them, knew it was a good secret to keep. "It seems like that is settled. You can meet my folks too, see where I grew up."
His fingers twitched under Gabe's hand. "I'm looking forward to it. Don't normally like going home much, since I know I have to come back again. This will be a good change."
They'd eat soon enough, really. Very soon enough. "I wait for you to try it then, because you already know you're allowed to get in to my pants," lightly teasing, but still opening that door saying that Jack damn well could try and romance him if he wanted to. Full green-light there. "Good, really," even if it had been a tease? That was... really weirdly good to hear, especially after that week long locked up together and fucking on anything they could due to hormones.
Who'd have thought he'd end up finding a boyfriend right there in it. Was almost funny to think he'd turned down a proposal of someone who had wanted him to stay back in LA. Forget about joining up in all of this, that he didn't belong there- and hell, that was mostly why he'd said no. How they had clearly seen him to say any of that. That was something he sure as hell hadn't spoken about- "Look forward to it, really."
"Glad to hear that," a good change rather than not looking forward to it, usually. "Also? I hope you like pie. There's a really damn good pie place in LA I'm dragging you to."
He laughed and shook his head in disbelief that this was an actual conversation that they were having. It was nice to have someone who was so comfortable around him and vice versa. "You're just encouraging me to show you everything that I am made of romantic wise." He wouldn't do it right now, thinking that the surprise and thoughtfulness would be far more appreciated. He needed to think and plan his next romantic moves.
Jack believed that everyone who could fight, should fight. It was freedom and the lives of many on the line, and they had a duty to serve. Gabe would be sorely missed not in the lead of the SEP soldiers, and he knew that the older man would thrive once this mess of hormones and alphas briefly challenging was over. They were better off for Gabe's no-nonsense attitude, dry wit and tactical mind.
He smiled because of course he liked pie. "That sounds great. I'll probably have a slice of every one of them they have there, if it's as good as you claim."
"I want to see all you're made up of romantic wise, boy scout. See just how well you can treat me. I can wait," part tease and part challenge, both issued with something so incredibly good natured behind it. Why not? Could be nice to see just how Jack could and would go about something like this.
He might have to crush some egos along the next few days, but he'd done it all once already once it had already gotten out that he wasn't the alpha they'd all just assumed he was with how commanding he was naturally. Be irritating the while he had to reassert himself, but it was manageable and so very possible to do.
That was a grin of Gabriel's expression- "You'll love it," because The Pie Hole had some damn good pies- both the sweet variety and even some savory ones.
All he was made of? That sounded an awful lot like a challenge and who was he to deny that from happening between them? By challenging they could establish something deeper, something no one could ever take from them. Mating was about hormones, but romance was about loving. He was definitely going to be brainstorming all the romantic things he was going to do for this omega, his commander, and his friend. He'd definitely sweep Gabe off of his feet. He wouldn't stop until he had. "Wait for me. I'll make it happen."
He expected that Gabe would put some of the alphas in their place after this, and it wouldn't turn into a paired situation unless the older man asked for his assistance. The omega was perfectly capable of putting down bad opinions and he'd make certain that the situation didn't escalate to others. That would be his function, in support.
He laughed softly and nodded his head. "You sound certain. I suppose that I have to believe you," he murmured affectionately. No point denying how smitten he was anyway.
"Just don't take too long, lover boy-" It was a warm tease, head tilted so that he could sweep Jack up in to such a tender kiss filled with affection, letting it linger for a bit and actually purred a little in to it as well, "-but I will wait for you." All the same, this wasn't an all or nothing sort of thing after all.
Hopefully he wouldn't need the back-up, and he trusted that Jack could handle things on his side of it. No doubt there'd be poking and prodding and the attempt at gossip, but that would hopefully be the worst of it. Hopefully.
"Tell me, who wouldn't love a place where one of their best sellers is called the Cereal Killer and is made to taste like cereal milk?"
He raised his eyebrows and tilted his head slightly, even if he knew such words were just a little teasing push. He waved a hand in the air even after Gabe admitted to being willing to wait. "You can't rush greatness like this," he said airily before leaning in to capture Gabe's lips with his own. "And I'll wait for you, my Commander." At his elbow, at his back and even defending his front. Whatever it took.
He was more than willing to provide back-up, and he knew that he was be subjected to gossip and inappropriate questioning of his sex life. He wasn't about to give into those comments. Who he took to his bed was his business and it just mattered between him and his lover. What he would receive wouldn't be nearly as bad as Gabe.
"Cereal Killer? That's an amazing name, and now I want a slice of it." Hell, he might have to buy a whole pie of some flavour to bring back to his folks on his way back. He knew they would like a good pie. "I feel like we're going to be eating our fill of pie and then some."
He almost chuckled at that little act, but it was muffled by that kiss which Gabriel very readily returned with a low purring. Very, very pleased about even the dramatics and everything. Already trusted Jack to have his back, there was no concern or worry about that, it was why he'd already planned for Morrison to be in his unit when it came time for them finally to be deployed and out in the action. They worked well together, and the younger man could keep up with him better than anyone else in SEP.
Jack Morrison could also rally a group together far better than anyone Reyes had ever seen, even if he was a bit reckless; always managed to reign him in before he pushed himself too far. They just fit together well.
Gabriel grinned. "Cereal Killer. It's got a cheesecake base to perfectly capture that fruity cereal milk taste with -of course- a graham cracker pie crust, and it's up there in their top sellers for good reason." He favored the Mexican Chocolate pie a little more, but hell if the Cereal Killer wasn't his top two. "And then some."
It hadn't been that difficult of a conversation setting them up as a dating couple, but it still felt something of a relief to be at the end of it as well. Kisses and laughter were what he appreciated from Gabe, since earning those things was harder than the frowns and contemplative looks. It seemed that getting along was on a whole new level, and while they would have some explaining to do given their rank disparity, he didn't mind at all. People, in general, were charmed by him, so he could sweet talk his way to acceptance.
He considered this pie adventure, and now it was a wonder he hadn't gone to this place before. Shows what the big cities had that his small town didn't. "Sounds like you're selling their products for them with talk like that. I hope you get commission on sales," he said with a smile and nudged Gabe playfully.
"You honestly had me as 'pie'." He would always love a good vanilla cake, but pie was not to be denied.
All of that would be tackled later, much later, some hope that there was far too much going on and they were far too valuable to even bother touching on that subject. There was too much on the line to do anything that would lose them one or both successful soldiers in this program. Still, still—
"Hey, gotta talk up a home town staple. Especially when they really are that good." Nudging right back, letting out a breath and just- well. There was a lot of relief there now. Knew where they stood that much better after that week and it was good. Really damn good, even if they did have to keep this new relationship on the down low. Be better for them in the long run.
He nudged Jack again, Gabriel sitting up a bit better. "Well, feel like I could actually eat something now- you got something you need to get on today?" Now that it was safe for the alpha to roam the place and all. Him waiting a day just out of precaution and avoiding breaking someone's nose yet.
Jack expected a few questions on his end, but otherwise, what they had done was merely show that suppressants needed refining. It wasn't an instinct that they could control after all, and that they had decided after sequestering for a week on end that they wanted to be a couple and continue to support one another was not something he would allow questioned too hard. They hadn't and weren't doing anything wrong.
"I suppose you're right. Nothing quite like trying to convince your lover to come home with you to eat pie and meet the family," he joked as he shifted more comfortably and stretched his arms above his head. He had no intention of gloating about his 'conquest'; that just wasn't who he was as a person. He respected Gabe way too much for such behaviour.
"Yeah, I have to get out and catch up on some training that I missed, so I figured I'd get some of that out of the way. There are a few guys from my SEP class that have recovered enough from their treatments to do so too." He also was curious to see what else he could do with this body, and he was keen and eager for fresh air and time in the sun - or rain. "Do you need me to bring you anything today?"
He knew he'd be grilled during his meeting, and knew just how he could brush aside any worries or concerns on what it all meant for his ability to lead. His judgement. Everything that would be questioned, even if it meant just saying that the suppressants needed to be adjusted, and once they were he'd go back on them; a harmless lie, considering the only one who would be affected by his heats other than himself would now be his mate.
They'd get by well enough. "Pie can make a wonderful bribe, and on top of that- they will ship out a pie anywhere in-state if you want to send some to your folks." Add just that much more sugar on top of the entire deal, clearly.
"Just be ready for those in charge of this to pull you aside, because you know they will." Just as they would bring things up during his scheduled meeting tomorrow. "Come back during breaks? Even if just to bring food, wouldn't mind the company while I review everything, and could even watch a few movies together." He had a player in the room, they'd watched things on it before.
They were mates, and as long as they were kept together, there should be no problem with other alphas aside from the usual comments. Jack was a dedicated sort, and he had an eye for his mate and him alone. He wouldn't wander and Gabriel didn't seem the sort to be wandering about either, so any questions to conduct were things he knew he could make a solid case for. He wasn't about to worry about it until the matter was brought up; he was happy with this relationship and would defend it.
"Will they? Well, I'll taste test it first so I know it's up the Morrison standards, and then I will see about shipping some back home." He knew that would be a nice surprise. Often he wasn't able to get them much in the way of gifts and it wasn't as if they wanted war conquests as things to remind them of where he was.
"I know, but I'm not going to worry about it until it happens. We did nothing wrong. Suppressants failed; that's all there is to it. You and I are both professional and will keep our relationship professional." He leaned in to kiss Gabe on the cheek. "I will definitely come back. You can text me for anything you need and I can bring it when I return." That sounded an awful lot like a date. "So... um, if we're doing movies, why do I see about getting us a pizza?"
There would be no wandering, but they couldn't account for others. Would just ave to keep moving forward, and they would have each other no matter.
Gabriel snorted a bit, "They will, yeah. Some folks actually go there just so they can send pies off to other people- their Earl Grey pie is on that gets shipped off to people the most, last I heard." Really, that little LA staple pie shop had been doing well for itself for decades at this point. There was no doubt that Jack would be sending a nice gift or two back to his parents.
Nodding a little, leaning in to that kiss and also reaching out for that burger he'd set down earlier, finally taking a bite and eating the lunch that was brought for them to share. Appetite clearly back, a good thing. "All the explanation and answer that we owe anyone." Did look thoughtful for a moment- "If you can manage swinging us a pizza? Definitely, be good to go with movies, and I'll text you if I do need anything, yeah."
Hmmm, Earl Grey pie, huh? Jack suspected that his ma would like that, since she was a big fan of the tea itself. She only drank it at night before bed, but he recalled her doing that almost every night since he was small. He never really had much of a taste for it himself, but it was important to her. "Alright, alright, alright, you have me convinced to come to L.A. with you and trying all these pies." He threw his hand up just a bit as if exasperated, but he was definitely smiling.
He was pleased to see Gabe eating, knowing he was going to need the energy for all the catch-up that would need to be played on battle reports, troop movements and the like. "Exactly. We're in this together no matter what anyone might think." He reached out to trace a finger over Gabe's cheek affectionately. "I'll see what I can wrangle up, okay? I like Hawaiian. What do you like?"
"Had to get that arm of yours twisted just right, huh?" Dryly stated after swallowing down the last bite of that burger, already going for some of those fruit slices. Neither of them had really eaten as much as they should have during rut/heat week, but that was alright. They'd kept hydrated and ate enough. Still, he needed to be ready to hit the ground running tomorrow.
The way to be, an honestly was why Gabriel had already been planning on keeping Jack and himself on the same team. All throughout SEP so far the man has been able to have his back and snap right where was needed with only a little direction. Sure, he did need to be reigned in at times but that was where Reyes himself came in. He could pull Jack in, and they made a damned effective team.
His eyes lit up- "I absolutely love Hawaiian. You have no idea how many times I've bought a whole large just for myself because no one else wanted any."
"Yeah, definitely just right. Not sure how you deducted my secret twisting needs," he replied just as dryly. While he could never beat Reyes in sarcasm, he certainly would use it right back, which was always fun and amusing. Maybe he was just more distracted by Gabe eating, finally finishing off his lunch. "If you can, finish off my burger too." He had lost his appetite.
They made an excellent team. He expected that they would continue to do so, especially with the opportunity to be on the same Strike Unit. They were going to do great things together, even if war was never pretty, never fun and never without casualties. But he also understood that sometimes war was a necessary evil for systemic change.
Jack felt himself instantly brighten when it seemed that they both enjoyed the same pizza type. It felt rare for some reason. "Really? I know people that tolerate it, but it always feels like I'm the only one that loves it." He sighed heavily. "Usually I end up having to eat just plain pepperoni or deluxe because that's all people will eat in a group." They were definitely getting pizza now!
An eyebrow arched slightly- "You sure?" Jack had eaten more than he had as is when he brought the food in to their room in the first place, but still. Had eaten plenty while Gabriel was only just starting. "Might get hungry later or something-" But they were supposedly going to be getting a pizza so maybe it was fine.
Thinking of pizza—
"It's something of a staple of pizza for me, there's nothing better than a Hawaiian if you ask me." Sweet and salty, the pineapple just going so well with the ham, the cheese, and the sauce. Hell, sometimes made some at home after a pig roast and used that meat instead of just ordinary ham. "You're getting us one, maybe two."
He shrugged his shoulders and declined finishing off his food. He was already thinking ahead to everything that he had to do, and he was also distracted by the little struggles that came with leaving Gabe behind. It was simply an alpha concern, and he knew it was completely unwarranted. Hormones were oftentimes not reasonable. "Don't worry about me. If I get hungry, I can grab something."
He probably wouldn't, what with being busy and needing to catch up on a lot of the training and testing that he had missed the last week. Definitely wasn't going to be that fun of a day.
His smile was bright like the sun. They had chosen well to be mates together, if nothing more than for their apparent love of Hawaiian pizza. "I agree wholeheartedly. Hawaiian has been my favourite since I was a kid." Well, if both of them liked it, two was definitely an option if he could hunt some down. "You mean two maybe three, right?"
"Alright, and if I don't finish it off now I can snack on the food still here throughout the day while you're out." He was not stepping foot outside of this room for precaution's sake, because he knew if he still had some of that scent of heat clinging to him -mated or not- an alpha could still do something stupid. He didn't feel like sending someone to medbay with a bloody nose or something if it could be easily avoided.
He'd be spending his day reviewing so he could face that meeting first thing tomorrow without missing a beat and damn well show more than ever that he had damn well earned his position for his talents. Stomp down any questioning of that.
"Well, eat what you can. You didn't eat as much when you were in heat," he pointed out, but that was as far as he would nag about it. Instead, he leaned down so that he could set a kiss on Gabe's forehead, lingering there a few seconds just to enjoy the moment and the scent. He knew that his omega was safe here in this room, their shared space.
He ruffled Gabe's hair up, since appearances wouldn't matter today for the older man. Then he was stepping away to let Gabe get down to business and he had to force a separation. They had to be functional together and apart, and being away might clear his head a bit more. He'd bring pizza if it was the last thing he did!
Off he went about his day, checking in, getting updated tests and answering more than his fair share of embarrassing questions. Yeah, yeah... blood and urine sample given, and when the medical staff were finished eyeing him, he was allowed to head off and go for a run, which was excellent for clearing his head. Then he was getting a debrief and a few knowing looks, but so far no one commented. He arranged for two Hawaiian pizzas to be delivered by the evening, and he brought those back to his mate.
He tilted his head up for that kiss, humming a little lowly, "Most of what I ate was your dick," dry and teasing because he damn well had the mind for it. Pulling Jack down for a proper kiss before finally letting him go. Jack needed to go out and play his own catch-up and get checked out while he could.
Gabriel for his part spent the day reviewing, working out a bit in their room, and also making sure the old sheets were out for the laundry and both beds had clean sheets and were made up. Did finish the food, tray set aside for some other time.
At least he was used to keeping confined to a room, and had plenty to do once he had gotten himself satisfied with covering everything he'd need for tomorrow. Reason that by the time Jack came back he was laid back on the couch in their shared room, reading over one of the few books he had with him.

Date: 2020-06-19 06:27 pm (UTC)They'd get by well enough.

Date: 2020-06-21 05:05 pm (UTC)"Will they?

Date: 2020-06-21 09:32 pm (UTC)Gabriel snorted a bit, "They will, yeah.

Date: 2020-06-23 02:08 pm (UTC)He was pleased to see Gabe eating, knowing he was going to need the energy for all the catch-up that would need to be played on battle reports, troop movements and the like. "Exactly. We're in this together no matter what anyone might think." He reached out to trace a finger over Gabe's cheek affectionately. "I'll see what I can wrangle up, okay? I like Hawaiian. What do you like?"

Date: 2020-06-23 11:27 pm (UTC)The way to be, an honestly was why Gabriel had already been planning on keeping Jack and himself on the same team.

Date: 2020-06-24 01:59 pm (UTC)They made an excellent team.

Date: 2020-06-25 01:01 am (UTC)Thinking of pizza—
"It's something of a staple of pizza for me, there's nothing better than a Hawaiian if you ask me." Sweet and salty, the pineapple just going so well with the ham, the cheese, and the sauce. Hell, sometimes made some at home after a pig roast and used that meat instead of just ordinary ham. "You're getting us one, maybe two."

Date: 2020-06-25 03:47 am (UTC)He probably wouldn't, what with being busy and needing to catch up on a lot of the training and testing that he had missed the last week.

Date: 2020-06-25 03:53 am (UTC)He'd be spending his day reviewing so he could face that meeting first thing tomorrow without missing a beat and damn well show more than ever that he had damn well earned his position for his talents. Stomp down any questioning of that.
"Damn right I do."

Date: 2020-06-25 04:16 am (UTC)He ruffled Gabe's hair up, since appearances wouldn't matter today for the older man.

Date: 2020-06-25 04:25 am (UTC)Gabriel for his part spent the day reviewing, working out a bit in their room, and also making sure the old sheets were out for the laundry and both beds had clean sheets and were made up.
