"I know how to walk in them!" He just didn't do it well for a lack of practice. So Gabe probably looked better in them, but he could manage. If push came to shove and it would make Gabe's day, he would definitely try to find a pair to walk around in, but that all a scenario for another day. It didn't seem likely they were leaving their quarters for the rest of the night. "Well... if I had known it was coming on, I would have stalked up with better snacks." He had wanted to take care to keep them both with good energy and hydration.
He wrinkled his nose but didn't protest Gabe taking some of his pizza slice. That was fine and it was expected. They would probably be sharing a lot of things now, food included. He took a bite once Gabe was finished, chewing thoughtfully. "I think we will. We so far have worked well together. Our strategies are complimentary."
His shoulder brushed against Jack's, humming low in his throat. "Well, just means you've got to be ready for the next one, right?" Even if it would be easier to deal with, there'd still be that time where Gabriel was likely to keep in bed given the chance to have one. Need that extra bit of attention and care.
"All the more reason I was already planning on taking you with me, there's an argument to be made that dividing us would halve our success rate simply because of how well we balance." From physical performance to strategy. They just knew how and where to pick up for the other without missing a beat. Something that could give them a real striking edge to this war and have that much more of a chance to survive. How he'd written up all of his potential assignments of others; paired them with who they worked wit the best.
Jack sighed as if expecting the worst, like Gabe might fly into a heat by tomorrow. He knew that wasn't true, and he fully intended to stock up on snacks from home or the local grocer once he was allowed off base to get them. There was no way he was allowing them both to go through another heat without being properly prepared. "Don't worry, handsome, I'll have you covered when the next one rolls around. I'm not used to being caught with my pants down like that, but you definitely surprised me." As only Gabe seemed to be able to.
He nodded his head, taking another bite of pizza as well. "I completely agree with that assessment. We've been training long and hard to be a good paired unit just like everyone else, and I suspect our response time to each other will double now." And really, that's all the military and the government wanted, wasn't it? They needed an edge in combat and if this was it, they would take it. War required sacrifices.
Well, there was a brief little kiss pressed against Jack's cheek with so much behind that short bit of affection. "Know that I can trust you with that one, boy scout." A little teasing right along with it, like everything was so normal even with something so much more added, still very much them.
Finished off his slice, Gabriel not going for another slice immediately. "Exactly. They'd be fools trying to separate us over this if any of them even try to suggest it, and there's more than enough proof of it I can pull up in training vids." Of course there were recordings, it's how he knew how others paired together as well. "I might have to remind some people just who it is they're talking to, but I can deal with that when it comes."
It was a good judge of their choices and care for each other to have such trust. In Gabe's more vulnerable time, it was his job to keep the omega protected and as healthy as the difficulties of a heat would allow. "Good. Your trust means a lot to me." Said seriously even if Gabe had been teasing at him. Gabe was an excellent soldier with an excellent judge of character after all.
Jack was still working through his own piece, and he was just as happy for it. While most of his attention was on his mate, his eyes occasionally flicked to the movie that was playing. "I know for a fact that you're too stubborn to allow us to be separated. You get what you want, especially since you're in command of the SEP soldiers and we know how you handle large-scale war. Plans upon plans and all of them adaptable." God, Gabe in action was such a thrill to watch. Took apart all arguments in a logical and almost scathing way at times.
The corner of his mouth twitched a bit, catching Jack by the jaw with a hand so he could press more of a kiss to him. "Trust you with my life, Jack. Now you just get all of it and more." Get to spend the rest of that life with him and everything with how things had turned out for them.
He let Jack go back to his pizza then while he was still, well, thinking over exactly what he had to be prepared for tomorrow. Gabriel knew he had everything in the bag, it would be stupid to argue against him just because his heat suppressants failed him; they all knew he was an omega; paranoia was just a hell of a thing. Knowing this just made it clear to all of those under him, how a few of them would act while most wouldn't look at him differently. "All the reason I'm going to be ready for tomorrow." Which Jack would get to see once he was in front of the other soldiers again.
Jack was definitely the loyal type, and the fact that he had earned himself a mate that would hopefully be life-long just settled him into a sense of peace about the whole affair. He leaned into that kiss, smile on his lips because of it. Really lucked out walking in that day. "So do you. I'm not going anywhere, so you're stuck with me for the long haul."
He was finishing off his pizza slice, not nearly as pressured as Gabe was when it came to command. He had been ribbed a little by some of his friends, but otherwise, he had been left alone. It wasn't smart to be teasing an alpha so soon out of a rut and having taken a mate; he could be unnaturally testy and protective for a bit. He looked over at his mate as he wiped his mouth with a napkin at the mention of tomorrow and reached out to cup the omega's face. "It's going to be fine. A little rough questioning as they always do, but you're in command. They can't take it away from you because something they gave you failed. It wasn't in the field, no one died, and if anything, you can press the advantage that you are now more 'controlled' because of it." Alpha and omega pairs tended to react only off of each other after all.
With how it could have gone- well, Gabriel couldn't think of a better outcome between what might have been. Kiss was soft and sweet, just for the time it lasted. "Seems we're in agreement then," in for the long haul, whatever that may be.
There was a slight widening of eyes, more out of surprise at his face being cupped, but Gabriel leaned in to Jack's hand and let out a slow breath. Growing tension melting out of him. "No worse than anything I've gotten before," which didn't even have to do with what he was other than being in command and how dire the situation was growing. This jut felt a hell of a lot more personal than anything. "Means they can't try to move you off to another team either." There was too much at risk, and he could argue all of the advantages it would give them.
Be stupid to try and change anything he'd already written up, too. "No worry about me distracting any other alphas out in the field."
