"Sounds like you need to socialize more then," he replied, corner of his lip twitching in a smile. Maybe they both needed to socialize at this point, but this was an oddly quiet moment between them. They had only met hours ago and yet here they were leaning on each other as his fingers continued to stroke over the scales of the merman's tail, letting his nails glide occasionally over them.
He nodded his head, finding some agreement in the idea of seeing family in future. Nothing set. He should go home, but he still hadn't for a good while. "Well, I'm sure you'll enjoy them when they do make their rounds up here again. Until then, we have to get you healthy again for the next future visit of unknown time."
He snorted a bit, "Maybe. You're good enough of a start, I think." His head had tipped just enough to easily rest slightly against Jack's shoulder as well with that lean, relaxed and allow for all of that touch. Long hair falling a bit, but not in the way of anything, and it seemed like he could stay like that as long as he was allowed. If he was allowed.
"Hopefully it isn't until after whatever it is out there has passed." Gone. He'd hate to find out what could happen otherwise, more so if he'd barely made it out alive.
"Yeah, I know that feeling. I tend to keep to myself," he murmured, tipping his head a little even if his fingers continued to move along the hard smooth scales. It was a nice feeling to touch someone else, to have it welcomed on both sides. His other hand rose to gently card his fingers through that long hair, moving it back to tuck behind the merman's ear.
He nodded his head, already planning on pulling a few contacts to give him an inside scoop on what might be out there. "We'll have to wait and see. Right now, you just need to concentrate on healing up."
"Easier at times," a lower hum. He didn't move away when he felt fingers move in to his hair, just cracked an eye open for a moment as the corner of his mouth twitched briefly. Tucking hair behind his ear revealed that even it was a little finned, sharing that red color from pointed tip to where it blended in to tanned skin.
That eye closed again, remaining relaxed there as he was. "You're right, yeah." Wait and see, and hope that they were far away from here. They might not be as lucky as he was and that, well....
"Most times, really. Everything is less complicated in isolation," he said with another small shrug of his shoulders. It was only bad because they were social creatures, and there were definitely times he needed some interaction to drag him out of his own head. Maybe that's why it was nice to have a guest who seemed to be in the same kind of social predicament as he was. Both chosen.
He nodded his head, fingers playing over the fin carefully. He didn't stay long stroking that ear, finding it a touch too on the intimate side. "I'll look into the matter, see if some buddies of mine have heard anything. I don't want you going back out there if it means you'll be attacked and hurt again."
There was a hum, and Gabriel stretched himself out a little to be more comfortable, lounging more like a cat than anything that had been dragged out of the sea had any right to. Yet there he was, and at least he felt cleaner. Still bandaged up and perhaps some would need stitching later on, just to see how they healed or not.
Fingertips ghosted over Jack's hand, just a brief sort of touch. "There may be noises of a boat sunk at the very least- though I wouldn't remember where. Was already in a poor condition when I saw it going down." So there at least be that whenever he looked in to it.
It seemed that his merman guest was willing to just make himself at home, which was actually a relief. There was no awkwardness or expectation that he found humans had with each other, no need to make conversation. Right now, he could touch and be touched and welcome that simplicity. And maybe, just maybe, he was growing to like the feel of this creature, even if it could never be more than a fleeting few days or weeks while the merman healed.
"That's very useful information. I will definitely use it," he murmured. With a military ship out there already, they would likely be investigating or at least know where this ship going down would be. Good. "I'll keep you in the loop if I find anything out, okay?"
"Mm," he hummed a little, trying to wrack through his memory, if he saw anything moving amongst the wreckage- "Last I need is someone who survived going off about seeing a 'mermaid' in the water, or blaming the boat sinking on a 'siren' and it gaining any little traction." Content to let fingertips explore briefly, even if a few bits of Jack's clothing was snagged by claws, tugging a little just to see how it felt between fingertips.
He knew about clothing well enough, but it never stopped him from feeling, to see if it was different than anything he'd gotten a hold of before. "I know I got hit hard by.... something. Pulling me up or down I couldn't discern," but it felt like something hook-like had sunk deep in to various parts of him, be it metal or bone.
