[Jack knew what the chick was seeking, having raised his fair share of farm animals. Babies were much the same, especially bird types. They wanted to be in groups where it was safe, to be warm, to have food and a safe place to explore now and again. In some ways, he would prefer to treat it as a farm animal rather than a pet; one had to keep a certain amount of emotional distance from farm animals as they were for production or work.
